Let’s talk about VD…

13 Feb

Passionate Reads

Okay… I’ve never been a big one for Valentine’s Day, but I would ABSOLUTLY take up drinking if he was delivered to my door!

Where was I? Oh…I remember! I was about to do a blog on VD!  🙂

Seriously, I’ve always looked at Valentine’s Day as more of a “Hallmark Holiday” because I believe that the reasons we celebrate Valentine’s Day, like Christmas, should be observed EVERYDAY, not just on a few dates marked on a calendar.

As far as traditional Valentine’s Day gifts, here’s my thoughts on those (take notes, guys!):

All flowers, including roses, don’t need a special occasion to be given to a woman. In fact, getting them for no reason at all is, in my estimation, the BEST reason to receive them!

Writer’s block, lack of inspiration…or just too damned tired to write?

Okay, my lovelies, I’m not quite sure why I haven’t been writing much lately. It could be any or all of the above, but—

It really needs to stop…like, NOW.

33837f3838e5b90787080f870c67aa77It’s nearly November and in trying to figure out where 2013 went, I was reminded of my New Year’s resolutions for 2012.

Go to the Beach,

        Have a Drink,

                Eat What I Want,

                        Read a Book,

Fangs a lot, pal! What IS this fascination with Vampires?

All Hallows Eve is right around the corner, so I thought I’d start getting everyone “in the mood”, with a little reblog about a favorite horror icon!

I mean, seriously, what WOULD you do if you actually ran into one, face to fang?

Considering that they are fictional entities, these days you can’t turn around without seeing one somewhere.  And, apparently, they come in a wide variety of flavors—good, bad, vicious, benevolent, tortured, lonely and some who revel in their existence and embrace it to its fullest.  So many choices it’s hard to know where to begin, but let’s give it a shot, shall we?

First, I’m guessing your reaction would depend a great deal on whether it looked like the ghoulish Nosferatu from the silent film days or HBO’s characterization of Eric Northman from The Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris.

I know I’d pick a big, sexy blond over the short, repulsive bald guy in real life, so let’s go with that for now. (Actually, I did pick a big, sexy blond from the north…

Oh My GOD!

11 Sep

Never forget…

Passionate Reads

Oh  My  GOD… That was all I could say.

Not when I saw this  picture …

It was when I saw THIS image…

Ten years ago, Americans from across the country watched in disbelief and horror as the 9/11 tragedy unfolded.

We watched with whomever and wherever we could, many hoping for some shred of news about missing friends and loved ones.

Around those TV sets, strangers became friends and the entire country, a country that had heretofore never experienced a foreign act of war on its home soil, united for a common cause…Surviving 9/11.

My blog is usually light-hearted and funny, but when I realized that my regular blog date would fall on 9/11, I knew that today’s post would have to be different.

In respect and observance of the day, I am PURPOSELY posting this after the live coverage of the 9/11 Memorial dedication concludes.

A New Frontier for Star Trek

19 May

Well…I’ve been a bit busy in the past few months, but I’m BACK and promise regular posts from here on.

Having said that…Has anyone out there seen the latest STAR TREK movie?

I did, in IMAX 3D, and I have to say…

O. M. G.!

I thought that the first “revamped” movie was brilliantly crafted, providing a much needed updating for today’s audiences while still satisfying diehard “Trekkies” around the world.  The bar was set pretty high after that.

Into Darkness cleared that bar by light years!

I am NOT going to give any spoilers in this, so never fear, but I will say that the movie again plays brilliantly off of original Star Trek components. Some are very subtle, but do contribute to the believability of changes in the original “WoK” story line.

I think the casting for the new movies is absolute perfection, not the least of which is Karl Urban as Leonard “Bones” McCoy. I love Karl Urban and I have to admit, until I saw the first movie, I had my reservations about him as Dr. McCoy. He plays the good doctor to a “T” and adds a huge dose of sex appeal in the process. I hope he gets a “love interest” somewhere down the line…It IS only fair (hint hint).

Chris Pine as James Tiberius Kirk combinesKirk 2 roguish swagger, blatant sexuality and boyish charm with just the right amount of vulnerability. He has all of Shatner’s confidence and bravado, along with real human flaws that the original Kirk never seemed to show. Struggling and striving to overcome them makes for a much more realistic character that audiences can REALLY relate to.

Spock 1

Zachery Quinto’s portrayal of Spock is probably my favorite of all. Despite his Vulcan quest for logic in all things, his struggle with his own humanity is constant and adds dimensions to his character. These are qualities that the original “Spock Prime” (Leonard Nimoy) only openly acknowledges now, after a long and prosperous life. As with Kirk, glimpses of his basic human weakness make him stronger and all the more endearing.

The rest of the cast members are equally talented and have once again, been able to stay true to Roddenberry’s original characters and concepts, but enhanced them on all levels.

And speaking of enhancements… The special FX are off the charts, especially in IMAX 3D. This is definitely one you MUST SEE on a big screen! The action scenes are epic and the dramatic ones tear at your heart.

All in all…FIVE STARS!

Now… what will I blog about next?

Something SEXY for SURE!!!

(Yes, I do STILL love my job! LOL)

The “Mutha” of all blogs… A Mother’s Day M.I.L.F Smackdown

I’m still alive and I will be back with new posts SOON…PROMISE!

Passionate Reads

First,  for anyone who has been living under a rock for the past decade or so, MILF, is an acronym for “Mother/Mum I’d Like to F@#k“. It denotes a sexually attractive older female, generally between 30 and 50 years of age, and let’s not forget the most important factor…

A MILF is someone’s MOTHER!

If you have ever been referred to as a MILF, wear the honor proudly because you are in VERY good company. “Team MILF” might have been popularized by “American Pie” but it goes back a loooooooong way before that.

Think I’m kidding? Think again!

Let’s begin with Jocasta, the mother of Oedipus whom (as the story goes) he meets and has sex with. (Okay, hot mom or not….that’s just gross!) Skip ahead to modern times and Mrs. Robinson from The Graduate exemplifies the concept. (Seriously, I just don’t see Dustin Hoffman as a…
