Spirit Island by Adelle Laudan

At twenty-one years of age, Nara still hasn’t found the right man to share her life with. The only man who ever made her heart race and turned her words to gibberish left Spirit Island over five years ago.

While pursuing his dream of playing in a band, Tokoda receives news of his parents’ death. He is then forced to jump on his Harley and return to a place he couldn’t leave fast enough, a place where great spirits are believed to reside and tales of them and ferocious Manitous are often told around the campfire.

The mystical beauty from the legendary Princess of the Underwater rises up from the lake. Both Nara and Tokoda find themselves thrown back to a time on Spirit Island very different from present day.

Tokoda is on a quest to find the intriguing Nara and ends up in the midst of their adversary, the savage Sioux tribe as it prepares for the barbaric sun-dance. He must keep his Ojibwa roots a secret or face certain death.

Nara lands in the Ojibwa camp of her ancestors, where the natives believe she is the princess and daughter of Chief White Bear. She takes on the identity of the princess in hopes of finding a way home, only to discover her own life is at risk, and the one man sent to keep her from harms’ way is the same man she’s tried so desperately not to love.

Beyond Prudence by Anya Richards

Ostracized by Victorian society, mourning the betrayal of her lover and the loss of the only relative who understood her, artist Prudence Hastings longs only for independence. Solving the mystery of Uncle Harry’s bequest hopefully will provide it, but the large metal box in the cellar of Hasting’s Halt seems both impossible to open and singularly useless. Without the blueprints or any idea of what the box is supposed to be, Prudence has no way of knowing whether it is as valuable as her uncle obviously believed. Approaching William Foreman for his assistance seems a good idea—the reclusive inventor was the only rival Uncle Harry trusted—except the irascible Mr. Foreman is in the middle of a lucrative commission. His refusal seems assured, until she realises he needs a test subject for his rather intriguing contraptions…

A self-made man, William has no interest in society, but even he knows using Sir Harold Hastings’ niece to test the mechanical sex toys he is building for The Acolytes of Concupiscence is beyond the Pale. Yet he can’t help being fascinated by the puzzle of Sir Harold’s final invention, and even more-so by the woman who now owns it. Seeing her strapped down to The Amazing Spender or experiencing the delights of The Great Steam Stimulator is enough to make him want to use The Wonder Quim himself. For the first time in his life William finds himself unable to concentrate on his work, and wanting more than his inventions can supply. Caught in a conundrum no amount of mechanical genius will solve, he’s forced to examine his own nuts and bolts and decide where his heart truly lies—
