Here in the dungeon we know all about the dark passions. We’ve talked many times about how some of us need hard love, love that digs in our shadows, a love with teeth in it.
Welcome Siobhan Muir who brings us a love story with teeth in it and a treat that combines two dark pleasures. *bows low, kisses, Siobhan’s fingers*
Cherie, it is always a pleasure. Tell us about Bridget and Fredrick while I gather the ingredients.
SM: *with a delighted grin* Thank you for allowing me in your kitchen, Master Bond.
The story of Bridget and Fredrick combines the fiery living energy of the Goddess with the sultry, grounding effects of the earth. Bridget is a lady of fire and sarcasm, jaded by the ways of the world, and completely unaware of anything extraordinary about herself (aren’t we all that way?). Fredrick is a vampire, grounded in his knowledge of his premonitions and a devotee of the Goddess. He’s used to getting his way at first look (as I’m sure you are, Master Bond), but finds Bridget a bit of a challenge. It does help that he has chocolate brown eyes and is a big fan of kissing his lady, though. *winks*
Bond: Chocolate and kisses, the light dawns…this must be why you chose to make coffee kisses today.
In this recipe, mes amis, we have a joining of two great forces from the dark. Both coffee and chocolate have long been thought to enhance mental and erotic power. And so they’ve been elements to be controlled or restricted. Chocolate because of it’s reputation as aphrodisiac and coffee for it’s stimulating effects.
SM: They certainly work on Bridget…and on me, for that matter. Hell hath no fury like a woman without chocolate or coffee.
Bond: And there is no quicker way to her heart than to turn both into a sensual delight to please her, n’est ce-pas?
So in a large bowl we mix the butter and powdered sugar. *passing the bowl and whip to Siobhan*
SM: With baking, when butter and sugar mix, the creamy sweet concoction is best when its light and frothy. It offsets the chocolate and coffee, like Bridget’s light offsets Fredrick’s darkness.
Bond: This is true, cherie, and the best romances are a contrast of passions between lovers.
Once you’ve whipped her up to a nice froth, you add the petit noir–coffee, a dark stimulant.
Did you know some governments had tried to outlaw the coffee? Of course they insisted it was for health reasons, but they saw coffee houses as places that brewed dissidence and served up rebellion.
SM: Bridget has always found them places of sanctuary and comfort, not only because of the warmth in a full cup of coffee, but also the cozy decor. They are great places to snuggle with your lover on cold, rainy evenings, surrounded by the scents of delicious baked goods and sultry, sensuous coffees. It helps that Fredrick owns several of coffee houses and even seduced her in one, once.
Bond: He has several coffee houses? He and I will have to talk one day. Coffee houses for seduction, this gives me ideas.
Sorry, mes amis, my mind runs away with me. *smile*
Now when all is ready we spoon mixture into the piping bag fitted with a medium star nozzle. Pipe 3/4 inch rounds of mixture 1 inch apart on greased baking trays. *hands bag to Siobhan* I think we will let you do the honors, cherie.
SM: Don’t forget to use a gentle, but constant pressure on the piping bag. These cookies are meant to be plump and round, not hard and flat. You can pipe any shape you prefer, of course. I certainly have my favorite; long with ridges, drizzled with chocolate. *winks*
Bond: *wiggling eyebrows at Siobhan* Plump and round is definitely preferable. Definitely. You have to show me this chocolate drizzling technique of yours. *watching Siobhan manipulate the bag*
Er, sorry, mes amis. I get distracted. It’s hot in here. *mops brow* We should have waited longer before turning on the oven.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned. Let stand on trays for 5 minutes before removing to wire racks to cool.
And now for the fun part, the bonding, joining of two to make something delicious. And we do that with our other little dark pleasure, le chocolate. Pour melted chocolate between two pieces and they will bond as they cool.
SM: Mm-hm, the very best part. Like the soothing, dark warmth of a lover’s caresses. Fredrick hopes to temper the Goddess’ fire within Bridget, but as all good bakers know, chocolate can be easily burned and Fredrick isn’t always as smooth as he’d like to be. You know what happens when you get too close to the fire. Still he adds a touch of sweetness that Bridget has been missing. Just like chocolate to coffee biscuits.
Bond: *wicked grin* Have a coffee kiss, cherie. And thank you for sharing your delicious kisses with us.

1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup powdered sugar, sifted
2 tsp instant coffee powder dissolved in 1 Tbsp hot water cooled OR
1 Tbsp fresh brewed coffee, cooled
2 cups flour, sifted
1.5 oz dark chocolate, melted
powdered sugar for dusting
